Hikari has developed five pellets for the specific eating habits of different types of fish. These pellets have unique properties that make them easily accepted by even the pickiest fish. They also take into account where different fish eat their food, for example, a pellet for mudskippers and bottom dwellers should sink quickly to the bottom, while floating food is again suitable for fish that eat on the water surface. There are 4 different properties, these are indicated with symbols on our products: floating food, semi-floating, slowly sinking food and sinking food

Round pellets

The most commonly used round pellets, for Koi, pond fish, betta, goldfish and cichlids. The soft pellets have a solid structure and soften in the water without falling apart. Does not cloud the water when used correctly.

Spongy food

Pellets and sticks for tropical and marine fish that normally only eat live food. The food becomes spongy in the water. The elastic structure is similar to that of live food.

Disc-shaped food

Soft, thin wafers and disc-shaped pellets. The wafers are specially designed for bottom-dwelling fish that, with a downward-facing mouth, need to swallow or scrape the feed. The shape is retained and does not cloud the water.

Granulate

Very small pellet for smaller tropical fish to replace flake food, easy to eat and bursting with nutrients. Prevents discolouration and cloudiness of the water. Features Hikari® Micro-Coating™ so that ingredients are not lost in the water.

Hard pellets

Food with a very solid composition. Shape and nutrients are retained in the water for a longer period of time. Suitable for lobsters and crabs that eat slowly by tearing the food into smaller bite-sized pieces.

Japan is known for its high-quality Koi and aquarium fish. Keeping fish in a pond or aquarium is more than a hobby, it is part of Japanese culture. Hikari has over 140 years of experience in breeding ornamental fish and Koi. But also producing fish food in its own factories and researching the natural eating habits and food requirements of freshwater and marine fish.

Saki-Hikari®
Saki-Hikari® was initially developed specifically for professional Japanese breeders. Certain problems always arise during Koi breeding: such as poor water quality due to accumulated organic waste and poor filtration, the rapid spread of diseases, unbalanced growth and fat accumulation. These problems are mainly caused by nutrition.

Saki-Hikari® deals with these problems and provides outstanding results. The proof includes the 14 All-Japan Grand Champions since the turn of the century. Saki-Hikari® feed is the result of years of scientific research, development and close cooperation with leading Japanese Koi breeders.

 

ISO

 

ISO22000 Certified
All 3 factories of Kyorin Food Ind. Ltd., acquired ISO22000 which is a food safety management system certification for the first time in Japan as an ornamental fish food manufacturing plant. ISO22000 is an international standard for “prevention of food harm” and “high quality” in all processes related to food from production to the table, which is a fusion of “HACCP for securing food safety” and “ISO9001 for quality management system”.

4 purposes of ISO 22000 certification

  1. Improved reliability: Since ISO is an international & globally accepted certification system, it is possible to reach to the level of security and reliability in the world by obtaining ISO22000 certification. We have introduced the management method based on HACCP, however, our factories have not certified because of range of certification subject to only food for human consumption. We asked DNV GL, who has headquarter in Norway, and does the business for several risk management and operating their business in more than 100 countries, as a certification company. DNV GL has great influence internationally and we expect it supports our worldwide distributors quickly finish the customs clearance.
  2. Improvement of quality level: System organization and awareness improvement
  3. System organization: In order to respond to strict regulations and high demands from users, organize complicated in-house manufacturing procedures and rules according to global standards.
  4. Awareness improvement: Acquisition of ISO certificate is an issue to be addressed not only in specific departments but within the entire company. We strive to raise awareness for matching the target of the entire company.
